ASTM 4142 steel plate is a medium carbon, low alloy chromium-molybdenum steel, which is widely used in the industrial field for its excellent strength, toughness and wear resistance. Compared with the 42CrMo standard, ASTM 4142 carbon steel plate is widely used in the manufacture of heavy machinery parts, such as gear shafts in oil drilling equipment, transmission parts of engineering machinery, automobile differential housings and aerospace structural parts. | |||||||||

PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
ASTM 4142/42CrMo steel is a high-strength alloy structural steel with excellent comprehensive performance. It has high strength, high toughness and excellent hardenability. After quenching and tempering, it can significantly improve fatigue limit and resistance to multiple impacts. At the same time, it maintains good impact toughness in low temperature environment, and still has excellent creep strength and endurance strength under high temperature conditions. It is especially suitable for long-term service in harsh environments below 538°C (1000°F). This material can replace high-nickel quenched and tempered steel through heat treatment processes such as quenching and surface quenching. It is widely used in the field of heavy machinery manufacturing. Typical applications include large-section locomotive traction gears, oil drilling drill pipe joints (1200-2000m deep wells), high-load engine cylinders, supercharger transmission systems, heavy spring clamps, and large plastic molds and other key components.

42CrMo steel exhibits good mechanical processing adaptability and supports conventional processing technologies such as drilling, milling, and broaching, but special attention should be paid to the welding process: welding can be carried out in the annealed state, while welding in the quenched and tempered (QT) state will change the mechanical properties of the heat-affected zone. If QT welding is necessary, the workpiece must be immediately cooled and stress relieved at 15°C below the original tempering temperature. This material can adjust the performance range through a flexible heat treatment solution. It is an economical solution to replace high-end alloy steels, and is particularly suitable for industrial scenarios with strict requirements on material strength, temperature resistance, and impact resistance.

APPLICATION
ASTM 4142/42CrMo steel sheet has become an ideal material choice for heavy machinery and extreme working conditions due to its high strength, high toughness and excellent comprehensive performance. After quenching and tempering, the steel exhibits excellent fatigue resistance, impact resistance and low-temperature toughness. At the same time, it can maintain stable creep strength and lasting strength for a long time at a high temperature of 538°C, meeting the requirements of harsh environments such as deep well drilling and high-temperature transmission systems. It is widely used in the manufacture of key components with large cross-sections and high loads, such as locomotive traction gears, oil drill pipe joints (suitable for 1200-2000 meters deep wells), heavy engine cylinders, high-precision supercharger gears and large plastic molds. It can effectively replace high-cost nickel-based alloy steel and significantly reduce the manufacturing cost of industrial equipment.
In terms of processing performance, 42CrMo alloy steel supports conventional processes such as drilling, milling, and broaching, and is suitable for the efficient production of complex parts. The welding process must follow specific specifications: it can be safely welded in the annealed state. If it is necessary to operate in the quenched and tempered (QT) state, it must be cooled immediately and stress-relieved at 15°C below the original tempering temperature to ensure stable material properties. Through flexible heat treatment solutions, the steel can accurately match the stringent requirements of different industrial scenarios for strength, temperature resistance and impact resistance, providing cost-effective and reliable material solutions for energy equipment, heavy transportation, deep well exploration and high-end mold manufacturing.
